I'll eat my crow here. I was an Alpha and Beta tester for Division 2, and I was so pissed off at the way the developers treated us (most of the time just ignoring all our suggestions, in the case of Marco, persecuting him on social media and harassing him) that I spent almost two years without touching Division 2.
I still think having a fixed location, and starting from scratch, was an error… Using the Underground they could have "ported" the player into any map/city they wanted to include.
Divison 2, IMO, as a solo player, is a far superior game… However, I miss all the side stories and the lore from The Division. Like you, and like IRL, I appreciate the "grey" pallet they used for the characters (getting as far as possible from the American "Heroes" mentality). As a Warrior and Historian, I know that in a crisis there are no "Good Guys" vs the "Evil Guys," everyone just does the best they can, according to the way they perceive the threat.
The only fault with Division 2 is the lack of effort put into the stories they want to tell, I think they were far more concerned about the combat, which makes content become boring very quickly. Also, the fact that Ubisoft chooses to leave Developers with a "skeleton crew" did not help.
Overall, I now prefer Division 2… If only they had dozens of books to get coherent stories from… Oh, wait 😉
Cheers.

In all my years in combat, I never had, PTSD, nor do I believe in it unless someone was fighting "trench warfare" for a prolonged period of time (I attribute "modern" PTSD to soldiers who are ashamed of what did, and have a hard time living with themselves), however, I get something resembling PTSD every time I think of The Division "Chicken Dancing" or that horrid "Shield Meta."

Another brilliant breakdown. And, even more so, I like how you expressed each section, to explain your decisions. Nicely done!?!

In my opinion the first game has a lot better atmosphere than D2

I agree with a lot of what you said I am a D1 fan 5k Plus hours in the game and if I had to choose I'd still choose D1 over D2 because I feel D1 was ahead of its time D2 was rushed for profit because the Division 1 set records for Ubisoft but the sad part was they didn't stick to the formula that's why D2 will never be as good as D1 so I'm hoping The Division movie will do D1 justice!!

Those are fighting words. I just prefer D1 due to healing station and my builds are on lock and are no longer gonna change

In my opinion the first division game had a better story but the second division game had a better game play loop

Division 2 has shield meta, no way to counter skills, no outplay mechanics, no recoil … Y'all delusional.

I do enjoy the storyline in the first Division game. It was a bit darker, we still didn't know what was going on. Although if you had to just buy one game, I'd go with 2 because you can play in both DC and New York with the expansion.

div 2 i played far more but i do miss that atmosphere 1 had
dark and empty robed of hope yet still here and there with the right music playing at right part i still felt hope and the power to fight
1 had a unique take in games on a Apocalypse where the government was still there fighting ever on with world outside still there if not in a great place but there

But gotta say, I like Division 1 better. The story and the environment was much better to me. QoL was better in 1 as well. Without an April Kelleher type character in 2, made it less interesting.

The Division 2 endgame is way better I feel. With all the directives you can toggle it really makes it feel like more of a survival game too.

Hard disagree. I started with the division 2 and then okayed 1 and sure 2 has some quality of life improvments 1s setting and story is so much better. Alot more to do with tunnels and such. I am playing 1 alot more then 2

They really should have used some stronger visual filters and effects in D2 to convey the heat as apposed to how well the cold NYC winter came across.

The division franchise is like the first 3 souls games, 1 & 3 were created by the original teams so they are very similar, and 2 was done by the B-team, still good, but not like 1 & 3…….

I thought you would have a clear favorite, but… It´s just what it is (in my opinion at least): Division 1 lacks mechanical wise, but has a FAR more immersion and such. I don´t know how many times I did lexington or tunnel, but it always was like "okay, on to the next part, I know how it is going, but it still is fun." Division 2: Better animations, more graphical details… But, do I have fun, do I feel like I do it for fun or just to get something? I must confess I didn´t even raid in Div2, because I was just not having fun. I think they HAVE to abandon Div 2 storyline and Div 3 has to be not far from where Div 1 ende timewise, but what do we have to do then? Keener´s story is told, the" in-between" is not that exciting anymore, as we know how it will end.

I've put 600 hours into Division 2 (and hope to put more when updates will come) and only 90 hours into first one – build diversity is what makes it for me, so Div 2 is def my favourite

all the top tier pvp players stoped playing it because of how shitty the pvp is on the 2

I love both games but D2 is better overall imo. That said, I'm not playing either game again until we get some new content for D2 or we get D3. As for Homeland? I guess I'll take a wait and see on that one. The PVP crossover? Fuck that game.

Both are good and fun games.

Personally, I feel The Division 1 had a better story and immersion feeling to it through.

The Division 2 has better functionality in the DZ's but the Division 1 overall had a better DZ layout. What the devs failed to really change with the DZ's was PvP balancing. Initially in Div2 PvP was pretty good but then as time went by people started complaining that they couldn't gang-gank people anymore and they couldn't overheal using SHD tech and the devs caved in to that. They shouldn't have done it as that was part of the major problems in the Div 1 DZ.

Yes, in Div2 there are DZ's spread out but what's the point if it doesn't matter which DZ you end up in due to the balancing being just as bad as Div1. The whole idea of multiple DZ's was trying to sort that out.

Were I stand with the division franchise is the first division, because I've put way more time into it than the second one, now this is my opinion on the division 1, an excellent PvE experience and the challenge to get better and collect the event masks and lastly the hunters were quite scary to face even to this day but in the division 2 they are just not scary anymore, I even expected the division 2 hunters to put up more of a fight but they just didn't. So yeah all in on the division 1 because of the time I put into it and the survival mode is just too good to leave behind. NGN I do agree with most of the things you said in the video and I'm not a PvP person myself, I just play because I just want to have fun and the division 2 didn't offer that feeling to me honestly.

For myself on console if i had Division 1 Map, quests, mini quests, storyline Division 2 UI, Gunplay, and equipment Div 1 i disliked due to the gunplay and other minor things but majorly for the 3 upgrade types i never really liked to have to make a build off of and such Div 2 its the environment and maps i tend not to like its why i say if Div 1 was ever redone with the same environment and quests storylines side quest base upgrades but with division 2 gunplay equipment ui ectra it would it would honestly be pretty nice

What. I disagree with almost everything you said, The Division 2 is a shit feast, don't be hypocrite people! Raids are unplayable, with alot of game breaking bugs, the PVP is just trash and bcs that is empty, enemy spawns sucks, no consistent legendary builds and weapons do almost no damage to enemy's in end game! They are bullet sponges that one hits you the fuck out, btw the Division 2 updates are always shit, no real motive to play, when I bought the Division the original, it was shit, but they fixed the game and launched several new original content, while TD2 says "Big Update", when it's only Resident evil 2 Skins!

I liked both, the first game was something i really enjoyed, and like you said, felt the atmosphere was much grittier, and "unforgiving" but, the division 2, did what patch 1.7 did for the first game better, although i feel like they didn't know how to continue the story, it has still been a lot of fun to play, and i do occasionally come back to TD2, to see if there has been anything new added to the game.

It's way easier to build in div 2. I'm still not a fan of the pre school update that removed the 2 other talents on gear. But gearing up, looting, getting every attribute right is way easier in div 2 with targeted loot. And the open world is beautiful. I Would like more open world activities but there is still plenty to do. Completely agree with build diversity div 2 does a very good job with it.

As a Aussie I prefer one because of the atmosphere, story, map and enemies. 2s gameplay is far superior and the weapon variety is also impeccable compared to D1. But I play single player more often and Manhattan is just more immersive then Washington. Like I said, I’m Australian so getting that snow aspect is honestly great to see. I’m just kinda sick of the summer setting.

For me The Division 1 is better than The Division 2, because I don‘t like how they did the skills in 2 and I hate the grinding for levels between the finishing of the campain and the endgame content. But most importantly for me is that they promised to release all DLC for free in The Division 2 and than we got WLoNC and than they put all other free content behind it. Not cool :/

Reply
Heather 14/06/2021 - 19:56

I think that they both bring something very different to the table and offer something that the other doesn't. My personal opinion is that I like the Div 2 better BUT I still appreciate Div 1.
